Wetlands Education Center
ADMISSION Free. HOURS Sunrise to Sunset
Located in Port Aransas
The Wetlands Education Center occupies 3.5 acres between the UT Marine Science Institute and the South Jetty. The wetland was planted with various seagrasses and marsh plants. The wetland is nourished by water from the Aransas Pass Ship Channel and has tidal influence.
Preservation of coastal wetlands and estuaries is vital to the health of area bays and the Gulf. The grasses and shallow waters dissipate storm surges and prevent erosion, acting as natural buffers between land and sea. Educating school children and visitors about the importance of wetlands to both nature and humans is the objective of the Wetlands Education Center.
Visit the Trail System
The public is invited to visit the 3.6-acre boardwalk trail system to observe the waterfowl and its wildlife. The Interior boardwalks have access that is limited to guided tour groups only.
Join a Free Guided Tour
