Sea Turtle Release

Please join us on Saturday, February 7th at 10am for a special turtle release! (***This has been rescheduled from January 31st due to weather**)

This release will take place on Mustang Island at Marker 35 (Take Access Road 1 (through Palmilla Golf Course), turn right at the beach and continue south for approximately 1 mile)

Antoine, the Loggerhead Sea Turtle, who was rescued in late October defied the odds and created a long list of rehab firsts for the ARK! He became the first Loggerhead Sea Turtle at the ARK to receive a CT scan thanks to the generosity of Sea Turtle, Inc, he then became the first collaborative case where we were able to work with our friends at The Turtle Hospital for advice on performing the procedure to repair the small tear in his lung, and then became the first patient at the ARK to be successfully treated with autologous blood pleurodesis! We are thrilled that Antoine was such a resilient turtle, has normal bloodwork, has gained weight, and now weighing almost 100lbs, is ready to return to the wild!

Along with Antoine, several Green Sea Turtles will also be released who suffered from entanglement, jetty rock entrapment, pneumonia, and two turtles who swallowed hooks and received surgical treatment!
