Fennessey Ranch

Located near Refugio, Texas

Fennessey Ranch offers an array of unique recreational and educational opportunities, including world-class birding/nature trips, photography tours, customized group tours, field trips, training opportunities, and more.

This 3,261-acre wildlife oasis is a rich network of meadows, brush, prairie, freshwater wetlands, natural lakes, and riparian woodlands. It is home to numerous types of birds, plants, amphibians, reptiles, insects, and mammals. Visit The Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail, which runs along the Ranch’s nine miles of river frontage on the Mission River.

The Ranch is designed to be an environmentally friendly business that profits from traditional livestock ranching and other endeavors, managed by the University of Texas Marine Science Institute, and holds a conservation easement funded by support from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and Brien O’Connor Dunn.

Take a Tour

We offer photography tours and customizable group tours for 1-6 people.

  • Half day trips: from 8am-1pm for $100 per person.
  • Full day trips: from 8am-5pm for $150 per person.
  • Adjustable tour times are also available to accommodate groups 

Field Trips

Field trips are designed to engage students in fun, hands-on outdoor learning experiences for:

  • K-12 school groups
  • Youth groups
  • Scout groups and clubs
  • Special events, such as Monarch Madness
